…then this book is for you. Even if you’re not new, I suspect this hands-on guide would be a great resource for anyone involved in non-profits.
What’s especially inviting is that Jill Esau, the author, uses everyday language to explain how to get started in the non-profit sector. It is a practical, roll-up-your-sleeves type of book. Ms. Esau includes dozens of “best practices,” worksheets and examples to get you from – “I have a passion to do X, but I don’t know where to start” – to – “I helped build a successful, non-profit organization that is giving back to my community.”
Of particular interest in Chapter 6, Ms. Esau explains what the the “Charitable Choice” laws are all about, i.e. what the Faith-Based and Community Initiative really means to faith-based organizations. It was interesting to learn that many public officials are still unaware what this Initiative is all about.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is ready to get started building a non-profit organization. It will also help you determine if developing a new non-profit is the most effective and efficient approach to fulfill your passion and vision for your social ministry.
